So... How's That Self-Publishing Thing Going?
It's been a couple of years since A Foundation in Wisdom was released, so I thought I'd drop an update on how things are going. It turns out, there's no easy route to publishing. Fortunately, I already realized that long before jumping in the pool. But it's important to reiterate to anyone else who has caught the "I want to publish myself" bug--it's not easier--or harder--but it is different. So, know what to expect. Of course, that's good all-around advice.
I'm actually not doing too bad in Eastern North Carolina. Publishing is a business. And, like any business, you can expect to lose money while it grows. Somewhere I read that the average
New Challenges / More of the Same
Somehow I got the idea into my head that the best way to promote my novel-in-progress, An Ember in the Wind, was to come up with some sort of game. It's always fun to add new hobbies. It'd be neat to revisit the "hybrid book" concept with my new toys. In the meantime, enjoy my first game, "DeviantART Pinba

A new review of my book has been published at Terraverum, which arrived at an opportune time - it's always good to hear a bit of encouragement during the revision phase.
Earlier in the summer I had sat down with the intent on querying book blogs, but I stopped after I realized I was running out of time. Summer is my best opportunity to get some writing done, and book II won't write itself.
I think it's worth noting that self-publishing doesn't exempt you from learning the art of the query letter. Instead of querying agents, though, you're querying for reviews. Without a publicist and connections to the brick-and-mortar giants, those reviews

Wonderful! It sounds really interesting, I can't wait to read it. Will you be releasing an ebook?
